2008 Mountain Laurel Mountain Laurel Cardinal Preparation Plant received Mountaineer Guardian Award from W.Va. Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2007.
2008 Coal-Mac Holden 22 received Mountaineer Guardian Award from W.Va. Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2007.
2007 Cumberland River MSHA recognized Band Mill mine for achieving America’s best underground mine safety record of 2006, earning the Sentinels of Safety Award.
2007 Mountain Laurel Mountaineer II mine earned the Joseph A. Holmes safety award and the Pacesetter Award from the West Virginia State Council for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2006.
2007 Mountain Laurel Mountaineer II mine received Mountaineer Guardian Award from W.Va. Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2006.
2007 Coal-Mac Holden 22 mine received Mountaineer Guardian Award from W.Va. Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2006.
2006 Skyline MSHA recognized Skyline mine for achieving America’s best underground safety record of 2005, earning the Sentinels of Safety Award.
2006 Dugout Canyon Dugout mine earned the Joseph A. Holmes National Certificate of Honor for completing 682,537 work-hours without incurring a lost-time injury.
2006 Dugout Canyon Earned the MSHA Sentinels of Safety Certificate for working 456,600 work-hours without a lost-time injury in 2005.
2006 Arch of Wyoming Seminoe II mine and Medicine Bow mine each earned the Joseph A. Holmes National Certificates of Honor for surpassing 100,000 work-hours with a perfect safety record.
2006 Mingo Logan Mountaineer's Mine Rescue Team named "Grand Champion" at the Virginia Mining Institute's two-day rescue competition for the best cumulative score.
2006 Coal-Mac Earned West Virginia Holmes Safety Award for best overall safety performance among  surface mines in its class in 2005.
2006 Mingo Logan Black Bear prep plant earned West Virginia Holmes Safety Award for best overall safety performance among preparation plants in its class in 2005.
2006 Mingo Logan Received a Mountaineer Guardian Award from West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2005.
2005 Arch of West Virginia & Hobet Arch of West Virginia’s Guyan Mine and Hobet’s Beth Station plant earned West Virginia Mine Safety Awards from W.Va. Holmes Safety Association for best overall safety among surface and prep plants in 2004.
2005 Arch of Wyoming Medicine Bow and Seminoe II mines both received Certificates of Achievement for a perfect safety record in calendar year 2004 by the Wyoming State Mine Inspector.
2005 Arch of Wyoming Seminoe II mine earned the MSHA Sentinels of Safety Certificate for working 48,429 work-hours and Medicine Bow mine also earned the MSHA Sentinels of Safety Certificate for working 22,418 work-hours, both without incurring a lost-time injury in 2004.
2005 Catenary Coal Samples Mine received the Pacesetter Award from West Virginia Holmes Safety Association for outstanding contributions to mine safety in 2004.
2005 Arch of West Virginia Received a Mountaineer Guardian Award from West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2004.
2005 West Elk West Elk earned the CMA award for its excellent 2003 safety record among large underground mines in Colorado.
2004 Lone Mountain Clover Fork mine was named the "Safest Mine" in Harlan County, Ky. in 2003.
2004 Arch of Wyoming Medicine Bow and Seminoe II mines both received Certificates of Achievement for a perfect safety record in calendar year 2003 by the Wyoming State Mine Inspector.
2004 Hobet Mining Received Holmes safety award for best overall safety performance among large surface mines in 2003.
2003 Coal-Mac Received a Mountaineer Guardian Award from West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2003.
2003 Hobet Mining Beth Station Prep Plant received a Mountaineer Guardian Award from West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for significant accomplishments in mine safety in 2003.
2002 Phoenix mine Coal-Mac named finalist for MSHA Sentinels of Safety Award. Employees worked more than 300,000 man-hours without a lost time injury in 2002.
2002 Lone Mountain Knott-Floyd Safety Days Contest - Achieved first place in mine rescue, first place in bench competition, and second place in mine emergency technician competition.
2001 Black Thunder Mine MSHA recognized Black Thunder mine for achieving America’s best surface mine safety record of 2001, earning the Sentinels of Safety Award.
2001 Arch of West Virginia Governor’s Safety Award - Recognized by Gov. Wise for Perfect Five-Year Safety Record.
2001 Black Thunder Mine Thunder Basin Coal Co. won first place in the Surface Safety Award program from the State Mine Inspector and Wyoming Mining Association. Black Thunder employees completed more than 1.3 million man-hours without a lost time injury.
2001 Hobet 23 Hobet’s Beth Station Preparation Plant received a Mountaineer Guardian Award from the West Va. Coal Association for significant accomplishments in mine safety.
2001 Darby Fork Mine Lone Mountain mining complex honored by the Kentucky Dept of Mines & Minerals and the Kentucky Coal Association for best underground safety record of its Darby Fork Mine.
2001 Coal-Mac Received the Holmes Safety Association Award for outstanding safety performance.
2000 Seminoe II Mine Arch of Wyoming won the President’s Safety Award for surface mines by working the entire year without a reportable injury.
2000 Phoenix Mine  Coal-Mac won the Mountaineer Guardian Award for surface mines sponsored by the West Va. Department of Miner’s Health and Safety.
2000 Mountaineer Mine  Mingo Logan Coal won (a) the Arch Coal President’s Safety Award for underground mines and (b) the Mountaineer Guardian Award for underground mines sponsored by the West Va. Department of Miner’s Health and Safety.
2000 Slab Fork Mine  Arch of West Virginia received a Mountaineer Guardian Award from the West Va. Department of Miner’s Health and Safety for significant accomplishments in mine safety.
2000 Pardee Prep. Plant/Loadout  Pardee Complex won the President’s Safety Award for preparation plants by working the entire year without a reportable injury.
2000 Ruffner Mine Arch of West Va. received a Mountaineer Guardian Award from the West Va. Department of Miner’s Health and Safety for significant accomplishments in mine safety.
