Future
There are a variety of economic
development uses for former mine lands.
Here are three from vision to reality...

The Twisted Gun golf course
near Gilbert, West Virginia,
opened to the public in August
2002. Due to the steep terrain of
the area, Twisted Gun
is the only 18-hole course in a
three-county region. The golf
course is 7,010-yards, links-style
and oriented to take advantage of
the prevailing winds. |

The only arctic char fish
hatchery east of the
Mississippi uses cold, pure water
from Arch’s Mingo Logan mine. More
than 100,000 of these members of
the salmon family find this mine
water in Thacker Fork, W.Va.,
perfect for hatching and growing. |

A Wood Products Industrial
Park recently opened on a former
Arch Coal mine site in southern
West Virginia. The development
created 90 new jobs in wood
processing and floor
manufacturing, with another 130
jobs anticipated. |
