What is Podcasting?
A podcast is a simple, yet sophisticated
transfer of audio content over the
Internet. It allows users to listen to
audio files on the go. Podcasts at
www.archcoal.com are MP3 audio files
available for downloading onto your
computer and transfer to an iPod or any
portable digital-media device that can
play MP3 files.
What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an
XML-based Web-content syndication format
used to deliver audio files directly to
your MP3 device. It's an easy way for
you to be automatically alerted when new
content appears on
www.archcoal.com.
How do I get started?
Download special software
To use RSS or Podcasting, you will need
to first download special software that
will allow you to listen to MP3 files or
collect and display RSS feeds. You can
select from iTunes (MP3), iPodder (MP3),
Pluck (RSS), MyYahoo (MP3 & RSS),
FeedDemon (MP3 & RSS), and NewsGator (RSS)
to name a few.
Download the MP3 file or RSS feed from
archcoal.com:
-
Right click the link next to this icon
and select "Save target as" if you're
using Internet Explorer or "Save link
as" if you use Firefox.
-
Select the location on your hard drive
where you want to store the audio
file, for example, on your desktop
-
When the download completes, double
click the audio file on your desktop.
It will play in your computer’s
default MP3 player, for example
Windows Media Player or iTunes.
Add Podcasting or RSS Feed
After you download and install
podcasting and/or RSS software, add Arch
Coal’s podcast or RSS feed. Instructions
for adding feeds vary depending on the
application and software you choose, but
typically include:
-
Identify the podcast or RSS to which
you wish to subscribe
-
In your web browser, right click the
text or image link to the podcast and
select "Copy shortcut" or "Copy link
location"
-
In your podcast software select "Add a
new feed"
-
Paste the podcast feed and click
"Save"
