Keep America Energized
Affordable and reliable energy help keep America competitive in today's global marketplace.![]()
Transforming Power
Soon, our world will be short of energy. Developing nations are expanding and electrifying their economies at an unprecedented pace. Fortunately, coal is an abundant and widespread global resource, present in almost every country in the world. At current production rates the U.S. has enough coal to last nearly 250 years. That’s why increasingly clean coal use is essential for securing national energy supplies, reaching our climate goals and holding down energy costs for consumers.
To advance new coal technologies, we’re investing millions in programs that will harness the power of the next generation of coal power. Public-private projects include coal gasification for a near-zero-emission power plant and coal-to-liquids for gasoline and ultra-low-sulfur diesel.
Abundant Resource
“Coal is an abundant resource in the world. There are some people in the United States that believe we should turn off coal. But even if we do, China, India and Russia will continue to use coal.”Dr. Steven Chu
U.S. Secretary of Energy
