Arch Coal finds inventive ways to harness
new technologies at its large and modern mines.
Arch Coal uses sophisticated machinery and cutting-edge technology to produce nearly 12% of the total U.S. coal supply each year. Arch operates some of the nation’s lowest cost and most highly productive coal mines in the world, thanks, in part, to our ability to harness new technologies.
In recognition of Arch’s innovative uses of new technologies, Business Week named us “Web Smart” and we were named to the international CIO 100 list in 2003 and 2005. As just one example of Arch’s industry leadership, we employ a GPS-enhanced dispatch system to optimize the efficiency of our entire equipment fleet at our Black Thunder mine.
Arch Coal also supports research and development for clean coal technologies, such as coal-to-liquids and coal-to-gas that allows coal conversion to diesel fuel, natural gas and even hydrogen.
