integrate reclamation into every phase of mining. Great care is taken to
ensure that the land is restored to a natural and productive state once
mining is complete.

the nation’s environmental objectives while providing affordable, reliable
energy. Arch has a leading position in all three major low-sulfur coal
basins in the United States. The growing use of such coal has
helped utilities achieve a 50% reduction in power plant emissions since
1970.
Our human resources are of paramount importance. That’s why we’re
committed to making sure that each of our 3,500 employees returns home
safely at the end of every shift. Arch Coal’s 2005 lost-time safety incident rate
was four times better than the industry average.
